Dear Singers, Friends, audience members and stakeholders:
I’m really excited to be joining Jubilate Vocal Ensemble as new director this season.
Our first concert, which I hope we’ll be performing in late November and entitled Towards the Light, will include pieces specifically chosen for their beauty and light. Several gorgeous Canadian works will be featured including the Kyrie from Larry Nickel’s Requiem for Peace, Winter Sun by Don MacDonald, Pierless Bridge by Mark Sirett, and the premiere of a new work by me, a setting of the Acadian ‘chanson spirituelle’ Tout Passe.
We will sing Lux Arumque by Eric Whitacre and The Ground by Ola Gjeilo, songs which are utterly mesmerizing.
We will sing Seek Him by Jonathan Dove and How Can I Keep from Singing by Sarah Quartel, songs which leap up with exuberance and passion!
Particularly contemplative upon the theme of light in the darkness are the Appalachian tune Bright Morning Stars, set by Kirchener, the Road Home by Stephen Paulus, and the beloved Abendlied by Rheinberger.
Who could resist such exquisite repertoire!
If you love to sing, we invite YOU to come join us this season! Rehearsals begin the second week of September, and we are currently accepting names for auditions in late August, early September. Email me through the form on our website to book yours.
And if you are an audience member, we hope you will look forward to our return in November.
